Sha Yu had successfully finished her Ph.D thesis defense on 16th May. The defense was chaired by Xiao-Ya Chen, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

 

Yu joined our lab in 2011 as the 1st student. During her Ph.D study, she focused on the function and regulation of miRNA in Arabidopsis thatliana. She revealed that sugar was the upstream factor of miR156, which regulates the phase transition in plants. In 2016, she joined Dr. Yiliang Ding’s lab at the John Innes Centre, UK, as a visiting student for further research on RNA structure. Some of her work have been published.

 

Yu was sponsored by the Sino-Germen Centre to participate the 64th Lindau Nobel Laureates Meeting in Germany in 2014. In 2015, she was awarded the Ray Wu Prize for Excellence in Life Sciences by the Ray Wu memorial foundation, as the 1st winner in the institute. She also won several other awards during these years, and she will give speech on the graduation ceremony on behalf of students.
